Cristiano Ronaldo had already scored two of Man United’s three penalties this season, but he turned down the chance to take another against ArsenalArsenal after Bruno Fernandes failed.

During today’s game, Manchester united were losing 2:1 to the resilient Arsenal boy.

Fernandes stepped up and missed his second penalty of the season, squandering a chance to tie the game at 2-2. Fernandes was then to blame for Granit Xhaka’s game-winning goal in the 70th minute, which gave Arsenal a 3-1 victory.

“I spoke with him after the game and asked him about it, and he said he just didn’t believe he should take it, which is why he said Bruno should take it,” Rangnick said of Ronaldo’s decision not to take the penalty.

Between the intervals, Diogo Dalot hit the crossbar and the post, Ronaldo had a goal disallowed for offside, and United squandered other chances in a game in which they had 14 shots on goal.

Despite his team’s improvement in Tuesday’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool, Rangnick was concerned about the United defense after the team conceded seven goals in a week.

Rangenick continued, “I think we showed a better response, an improved performance than we did in the game against Liverpool.” But we conceded a goal that was far too easy to concede, because of the way we defended at the time.

“But we didn’t, and falling behind 1-0 after four minutes in a game like this didn’t help.” But I believe our reaction was positive; we had multiple scoring chances, including hitting the crossbar and the post twice, and we had enough chances to score three or four goals.

“We also had bad luck with VAR judgments; three or four VAR choices raised questions based on the video footage in the dressing room.”

“However, once again, it comes down to the outcome, and the outcome was disappointing.” Our main problem right now is defending in and around the box. We’ve given up three goals per game on average over the last three games, and that’s simply too much.”
