Every year, École Normale Supérieure (ENS) organizes an international selection to allow the most promising international students, either in Science or Arts & Humanities, to pursue a Master’s Degree at the University.

Level/Field(s) of Study

Master’s Degree at ENS (or one of ENS’ partner institutions) in the fields of Arts & Humanities or science.

Number of Scholarship Awards

ENS awards 10 positions in Sciences and 10 positions in Arts & Humanities each year.

Target Group

International students are the target group for ENS international selection scholarships.

ENS Scholarship value/duration

A monthly grant of 1,000 Euros for three years, as well as a room on one of the ENS campuses.

ENS international selection scholarships applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • When applying, candidates must be under the age of 26. (must not have reached their 26th birthday)
  • Candidates must not have previously applied to the International Selection.
  • Candidates must not have spent more than 10 months in France during the selection year (September 1st – August 31st) or the previous year.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that they completed at least one year of undergraduate studies at a foreign university (outside of France) during the calendar year preceding the start of applications.
  • Candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies at a foreign university (outside of France) by September 1st, following admission.

However, as an exception, the Director of ENS could authorize the application of a candidate whose academic background outside France is not standard.

Academic disciplines offered through the ENS International selection scholarship programs are as follows;

  • Arts & Humanities: Anthropology, Archeology, Classical studies (Greek, Latin), Cinema, History of Art, Theater studies, Musicology, Cognitive sciences, Economics, Political Studies, Geography, History, History and Philosophy of Law, History and Philosophy of Sciences, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, Sociology.
  • Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Computing science, Earth science, Mathematics, Physics, Cognitive sciences.

ENS International Selection Scholarships Benefits

The ENS International selection scholarships include the following benefits:

  • Access to excellent training through contact with outstanding researchers in a privileged training and research environment.
  • A grant of 1000 euros per month for three years
  • A place to stay (a room) on one of the ENS campuses.
  • Students graduate with a master’s degree in their specialty as well as the diploma of École normale supérieure.
