The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs established the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program to help French higher education institutions attract top foreign students to their master’s and PhD programs.

It provides opportunities for future foreign decision-makers in the private and public sectors, and encourages applicants up to 25 years old from developing countries to pursue master’s degrees, and applicants up to 30 years old from developing and industrialized countries to pursue PhD degrees.

The Eiffel scholarships are concerned with two major disciplinary fields, which cover the following seven fields of study for the Master’s and Doctorate components:

  • Biology and health; ecological transition; mathematics and digital; Engineering and Science
  • French history, language, and civilization for the humanities and social sciences; Law and Political Science, as well as Economics Management.

The France Eiffel scholarship program includes a monthly allowance of €1,181 and can be awarded for 12-36 months of Master’s level studies. The Eiffel scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,700 for PhD level studies and is awarded for a maximum of 12 months.

Furthermore, the program covers a variety of costs such as international air travel, train travel within France, local transportation, health insurance, and cultural activities. Under certain conditions, scholarship recipients may also be eligible for an additional housing allowance.

The Eiffel Program does not cover tuition costs. The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs anticipates that educational institutions, whose international influence will be enhanced by this program, will ensure that students receive the best financial support possible. Eligibility for France Eiffel scholarship program

Applicants for France Eiffel scholarship program must meet up with the following requirements to be eligible for the scholarship:

1. Nationality

This program is only open to candidates who are not French citizens. Candidates who hold two passports, one of which is French, are ineligible.

2. Age

Candidates for master’s level must be 25 years old or younger at the time of the 2023 application campaign, that is, born after March 31, 1997. Candidates for the PhD level must be at least 30 years old at the time of application in 2023; that is, they must have been born after March 31, 1992.

3. Courses of study

Eiffel Program scholarships are intended for students seeking to enroll in a master’s or doctoral program in France (including at a school of engineering). Only French government-approved programs are eligible. The Eiffel Program cannot be used at French-run programs in other countries, or in conjunction with apprenticeship or professional training contracts.

4. Applications Source

Only applications submitted by French educational establishments will be accepted. These institutions agree to enroll scholarship recipients in the course for which they were chosen. Applications received in any other manner will not be considered. In addition, any candidate nominated by more than one

5. Scholarship conflicts

Applications from students who have already been awarded another French government scholarship at the time of application will be rejected, even if the other scholarship only covered health insurance.

6. Master’s Component

An application nominating a student who was previously rejected in a competition will not be accepted, even if submitted by a different institution or in a different field of study. Students who have previously received an Eiffel master’s scholarship are ineligible to receive another.

7. Doctoral Component

nstitutions may nominate a candidate who has previously been awarded a master’s scholarship for a doctoral scholarship. Candidates who have previously received a doctoral scholarship are ineligible for another. Applications nominating a candidate who was rejected in a previous competition will not be accepted, even if submitted by a different institution or in a different field of study.

8. Language proficiency

When preselecting non-French-speaking candidates, institutions must ensure that the candidates’ language skills meet the academic program’s requirements.

9. The geographical location

Candidates who are already studying in France are ineligible for the Master’s level. Students enrolled in academic programs abroad have priority over students already in France for the doctoral level.

Direct applications from students are not accepted. EIFFEL scholarship applications are submitted by French higher education institutions.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must apply and meet the requirements of the French Higher Education Institution. Applications sent directly by students or by foreign institutions will be rejected. The application deadline for participating French institutions is earlier, in November or December of 2022. The application deadline for Campus France is January 7, 2023.
