Generation Google Scholarships 2023-2024 Overview

The Generation Google Scholarship was created to assist aspiring computer science students in excelling in technology and becoming leaders in the field. For the 2023 -2024 school year, selected students will receive $10,000 USD (for those studying in the United States) or $5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada).

The Generation Google Scholarship will be awarded based on each candidate’s demonstrated leadership ability, academic performance, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The program is open to students who meet all of the minimum qualifications, and we strongly encourage students who identify with historically underrepresented groups in the technology industry, such as women, black/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders, to apply. To apply, applicants must not be currently enrolled in an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. program for the 2023-2024 academic year.

However, recipients of one of the following Google Scholarships: Generation Google Scholarship are not eligible to reapply:

  • Generation Google Scholarship for women in gaming,
  • Google Lime Scholarship,
  • Generation Google Scholarship: for supply chain and fulfillment,
  • Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship,
  • Women Techmakers Scholarship for Computer Science, and
  • Women Techmakers Scholarship for Gaming.

Eligibility Criteria

Who can apply for the Generation Google Scholarship? Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the scholarship:

  • Intend to enroll or be accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. program at an accredited university or college in the United States or Canada for the academic year 2022-2023.
  • Be pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrate strong academic records
  • Demonstrate strong financial needs
  • Exhibit leadership and a strong desire to improve the representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology.

Generation Google Scholarships Application Process

Interested applicants will be asked to complete an online application form which includes:

  • General background information (like contact information, and details about your current and intended universities)
  • Family and household information
  • CV/Resume
  • Academic transcripts from your current (if enrolled) and previous institutions (if you have earned a prior degree)
  • Answers to three short answer essay questions
  • Recipients will be chosen based on the overall strength of their essays and application materials in comparison to the applicant pool as a whole or their respective academic peers (e.g. high school students compared to other high school students).

Three (3) Essay Questions:

The three short answer essay questions below are meant to evaluate your demonstrated leadership, commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and financial need. Each of the three questions below should be answered in 500 words or less.

  1. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership. Explain what you were attempting to accomplish, your role, how you influenced others, and the impact of your actions. Consider the many ways in which you affect the members of the various communities to which you belong. Remember that the example you choose does not have to be formal or traditional leadership.
  2. What is a significant challenge in the field of technology that affects historically excluded groups, and what do you believe is the root cause of this challenge? What steps have you taken to address this issue? Keep in mind that impact can occur in a variety of ways and on a variety of scales. Please devote at least half of your response to your actions.
  3. Describe any financial circumstances that have an impact on your need for a scholarship. Include any obstacles you overcame to get to where you are today in your response. What objectives will this scholarship enable you to achieve?

Terms and conditions For Applying for Generation Google Scholarships

The Generation Google Scholarship must be used to cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment for the student’s classes at their primary university. Scholarship recipients must be full-time students for the academic year 2023-2024. Before the winners are chosen, their enrollment will be verified, and all scholarship payments will be made directly to the student to be used toward tuition and education-related expenses. Students under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign these scholarship award terms and conditions at the time of acceptance.

We will withhold the award from any scholar who no longer meets the eligibility requirements, and we will revoke the award from any scholar who fails to meet the eligibility requirements. Google will send selected recipients instructions on how to accept the award.

Failure to complete these steps by the specified deadline will result in recipients being disqualified from receiving the award. On a case-by-case basis, recipients may defer their award for up to one (1) year from the time of originally planned payment, as determined by Google. Employees of Google are not eligible to apply for Google scholarships. Individuals who are (1) embargoed country residents, (2) ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or (3) otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
