The President Distinguished Achievements Scholarship is intended to assist students with direct educational costs and is based on student academic achievement and research potential. This scholarship will be given to current and incoming students at Wake Forest University.
Presidential Scholarship for Distinguished Achievement
Beginning in 1988, Presidential Scholarships for Distinguished Achievement are awarded to students who demonstrate both strong academic credentials and evidence of exceptional talent in the following areas of achievement: dance, debate, music, theater, and visual arts.
These presidential Scholarships are worth $8,000 per semester and are renewable for an additional eight semesters of undergraduate study.
The President distinguished achievements scholarship Program recognizes students who have distinguished themselves by developing a particular talent, ability, or interest. More so, the program, which began in 1987, broadens the campus’s and students’ interests and abilities.
The Scholars who are interested in dance, music, and/or theater are given priority for an internship with the Secrest Artists Series.
Presidential Scholarships for Distinguished Achievement Academic Expectations
Presidential Scholars must actively engage in their art form on campus, which may include official coursework or enrollment in department programs. President Scholarships for Distinguished Achievements!
The following are the expectations for scholars in each talent area.
Scholars must enroll in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester and maintain a minimum annual and cumulative grade point average of 2.0. (out of a possible 4.0).
Every year, scholars must make satisfactory progress toward completing degree requirements.
Scholars must live on campus for the entire four years, excluding time spent studying at other locations through Wake Forest-affiliated programs.
At the end of each academic semester, the Office of the Dean of the College is consulted to ensure that the Scholar has not violated any University regulations and is in good standing in terms of personal, honor code, and judicial conduct.
Eligibility Criteria For President Distinguished Achievements Scholarship
Though Presidential Scholars are not required to major in the area of their talent, they are expected to be active participants in that activity on campus.
Interested students must be prepared to present evidence of exceptional talent, and
the Presidential Scholarship Committee may request documentation of that talent (such as art portfolios, debate records, taped performances, and so on) as well as recommendations.
