The new Presidential Scholarships for students of Black heritage provide a package of financial and mentoring support for students applying for undergraduate study in autumn 2023/2024.
Fully Funded Presidential Scholarship Benefits

Each Presidential Scholarship for students of Black heritage covers:
- Home tuition fees of up to £18,500 for eligible Master’s courses
- An annual maintenance grant of £16,500
- An allowance of £1,500 for equipment
- Mentoring support
The scholarships are paid in addition to any other financial assistance you may be eligible for. This includes the following:
- The Imperial Bursary: which provides up to £5,000 per year in support without the need to repay a UK government maintenance loan for living expenses.

Note! For the MSc Applied Machine Learning in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and for any Master’s courses in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering the full Home tuition fees will be covered. Presidential Scholarship for black students.

Who is Eligible? Eligibility Criteria – Presidential Scholarship
To meet the eligibility criteria for a Presidential Scholarship for students of Black heritage, the applicant must be in one of the following ethnic heritages (or their equivalent in the respective application systems):
- Black – African
- Black – Caribbean
- Mixed – White and Black African
- Black – Other
- Mixed White and Black Caribbean
- Other Mixed backgrounds – including Black African, Black Caribbean, or Other Black backgrounds
- You must also qualify for our contextual admissions schemes.
However, certain factors relating to widening participation backgrounds will be considered alongside academic rankings. This will be done when the College makes final decisions on scholarship recipients. Other eligibility criteria also apply – see How to apply below.
How to Apply for a Fully Funded Presidential Scholarship
To apply for a Presidential Scholarship for students of Black heritage, you need to:
- Apply for one of our 2024 entry undergraduate courses – by 18.00 (UK local time) on 15 October 2023 if you’re applying for our MBBS Medicine course, or by 18:00 (UK local time) on 25 January 2023 if you’re applying for any other courses.
- Search for the course you want to apply for.
- Create an online account
- submit your application through the application portal and apply as soon as possible – see our step-by-step guide on How to apply below for additional help.
- Receive an offer of a place for 2023 entry by the scholarship deadline of 23.59 (UK local time), 26 May 2023
- Firmly accept the offer by the relevant deadline
- Complete the Presidential Scholarships application form (when it opens on Monday, 7 November 2023)
- Ensure to submit before the deadline of 23.59 (UK local time), 26 May 2023.

Please see below the list of eligible Master’s courses for a Presidential Scholarship. One of the aims of the Master’s scholarship funding is to encourage more Black students to participate in courses that lead to Ph.D. study.
Eligible Master’s courses include:
- One-year full-time and part-time Master’s courses in the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Faculty of Engineering
- One-year and two-year, full-time and part-time, Master’s courses in the Business School
- Exclusions: Online/distance learning courses and courses whose duration is longer than one year (ie part-time courses, the MA/MSc Global Innovation Design & MA/MSc Innovation Design Engineering at the Dyson School of Design Engineering) are not eligible.
Successful candidates will be notified by the end of July 2023.
